The host has already done the work. What they would like is something that is easy to receive and pleasant to keep.
Something that lasts
A pot of loose leaf tea, a reed diffuser, a stoneware mug. Things that will be used long after the evening.
Something for the table
A small cheese board and knife, a tea towel, a pair of glasses. Practical presents earn their place on the shelf.
Nothing that makes work
Flowers that need a vase are well meant but add to the host's list. If you do bring them, bring them already arranged.
Wrap it simply
Brown paper and string. A sprig of something green. That is enough.
