Our Story
Country Life, Well Made
There is a particular light in the Cotswolds in October: low, golden and kind to old stone. It is the light we think of when we choose what to stock.
The Village Standard is a British countryside lifestyle brand. We gather the things that make country life feel right, and we try to do it without fuss.
What we believe
A home should feel lived in. Good things should be used, repaired and kept, not replaced every season. The country has always understood that: the coat that outlasts three winters, the table that carries the family through, the lead that has been round every field in the village.
What you will find here
A waxed jacket for the walk to the pub. A wool throw for the fireside. Brass for the long evenings and linen for the kitchen table. Something for the dog, something for the garden, and something small to give to a host. The range is deliberately modest in size, because we would rather offer a few things we would keep than a great many we would not.
How we choose
We look for honest materials, sound making and designs that will not date. We describe each piece plainly: what it is made of, how it is made and, where we know it, where it comes from. We only call something British made where the maker says so, and where we do not know something, we leave it out rather than guess.
The country we have in mind
Stone walls and wet lanes, kitchens with the kettle always warm, boots by the back door and a dog asleep nearby. Not a postcard, but a way of living that is comfortable, practical and a little bit old-fashioned in the best sense.
A promise
We will keep things simple, tell you the truth about what we sell, and look after you if something is not right. If you would like to know more about a piece, or would like help choosing a gift, please get in touch.
Thank you for choosing pieces made to be kept.
